YOU FOR ME FOR YOU
I will be involved in a staged reading of “YOU FOR ME FOR YOU” (by a new playwright Mia Chung who is getting her MFA in playwriting at Brown’s) at the Page-to-Stage festival at the Kennedy Center on Monday 9/5. I started reading the play this morning and I can’t help but feel inspired and the need to cry.
The plot:
Two sisters make a terrible bargain with a smuggler in order to flee the poverty and disease that shape all life in North Korea. But how much are these desperate sisters willing to pay and how much are they willing to lose in their perilous journey to the Free World?
I’m eager to work on this play.. I’m thrilled to meet the playwright!
I feel so inspired because I really believe it’s through writing that we share experiences and knowledge and make people aware of the issues going on around us. I want to write a play about North Korea too because their liberation is a huge passion and concern of mine; and more people need to know about what’s going on within that country. I hope to get more and more involved with reading new plays and eventually (hopefully) writing a play myself about the issues affecting my world. As an actress, I’ve found that the writing is everything. It will determine whether the show will be good or not since all that actors do are bring the words to life and if the words are crap then so will the acting/production.
